We all have pieces of furniture that we love but that are suffering from an overload of wear and tear. Whether they’re family heirlooms or just pieces you bought ages ago and have been ‘loved’ by your cat, they all deserve a little bit of tlc which is where I come in. Take a look at some before and afters from completed projects.

This family heirloom was looking tatty and a bit sad so my client wanted to refresh it in a similar style

A new lease of life was given with this beautiful uplifting fabric with cushion to match

Work in progress in the creation of a kitchen bench seat

The finished kitchen bench which the client declared 'smart and comfy'!

This footstool had seen a lot of feet! When I review a piece, I try to asses the level of repair work required

Finished footstool ready for duty

A sad chaise longue, also a mysterious length and when I looked I could see it had been shortened

My client didn't want to change the length so I worked on the upholstered areas to smarten it up

This chair had a huge hole in the seat and generally looked a bit sorry for itself.

Wood cleaned, re-sprung, fresh padding and re-covered in a fun flowery fabric to lighten up the room.

Large and snug was the brief for this TV chair which through years of a large family fighting over had finally proved too much for both the fabric and springs.

A total re-build and a new practical hard wearing fabric the family can continue to fight over the comfy seat.

A Swedish 1950's "Teve" chair designed by Alf Svensson. Both arms and seat had worn out from daily use from both two legged and four legged family members. This family heirloom needed a complete overhaul whilst still keeping the memories and the style.

The funky coloured fabric was not only sympathetic to the original design but a perfect contrast with the current four legged family occupant who was very pleased to see her chair returned.

This light fabric on this pouffe had begun to look dirty and and was out of keeping with the rest of the furniture in the room.

A classic stripe with piping to continue the line of the stripe lifted this piece to and item more in keeping to the elegance of the rest of the furniture in the room.

Very simply made drop in seats which had just worn out.

No need to throw away. Immediate transformation using some offcuts of fabric that the client had to create a new mix and match set of chairs for a waiting room.

A chair that had been recovered multiple times over the years but the wood was in good condition but the fabric dated and tatty.

A classic colour in robust fabric so many more years use from this one and blends into the kitchen area where it sits.

The chair was a bit low so this cushion boosted it but didn't match the chair.

Matching booster cushion.

Picked up from an antique shop years ago this elegant little chair had a bit of a wobble and the fabric and trim faded.

Clean up and a bit of work on the wood to stabilise it and this wonderfully rich fabric lifted this chair to a new level of elegance.

A set of 6 dining chairs where the fabric had worn out from trying to remove food stains left by toddlers.

A more practical fabric for three of chairs in the worst state saved the client having to replace all the chairs to ensure a matching frame. The new colour also brought a freshness to the room and I added an extra layer of stuffing for comfort.

Both stuffing and fabric looked a bit tired on this chair and had been hidden away in the house as a result

Adjusting and adding to the stuffing underneath and the application of this elegant fabric and trim ensured this chair could be on full display again. The pattern match of the back and the seat is important for the flow of the piece.

A rather sad chair with a saggy seat which had rather dated fabric and trim but with many memories attached.

Some stripe and decorative nails brought this chair back to life together with re-building the seat for added comfort.

A lovely chair just in need of a bit of colour to fit in with the new curtains.

An elegant blue with a contrasting white double piping trim to match the new curtains and bring a new sophistication to the bedroom.

A sweet little child's armchair worn down by the use over the years.

Ready for the next generation of children to enjoy or just decoration to admire.

When you find a chair that is so comfortable and everyday use as worn out the fabric.

Back in use and refreshed from stripes to lovely flowers to brighten up the day.

A funky useful stool with the perfect shape but the fabric no longer fitting in with the new décor.

A wonderful bold print with a braid trim to compliment together with another stool to match, fits in with the new theme for the room.

These two functional plain chairs had been rescued from a former life in a hotel.

A mix of fun and funky materials make them unrecognisable and bring the colour palate of their new domestic setting into life.

What's not to like about a little leopard print to really give a little extra fun

6 very well worn plain dining chairs

A snapshot of some of the chairs recovered in this busy, colourful and fun fabric to put a smile on everyone's faces.

Rustic box cushions covers made from old mail sacks.

An elegant carver with delicate fabric beginning to show signs of thinning in vulnerable areas

Ready to last a few more years with a more sturdy good looking fabric

Top fabric damaged by sunlight but still lots of comfort left.

A more vibrant look with some extra detail provided with piping to give many more years of every day use. I also made headrest and arm protectors with the remaining fabric to protect the top fabric for longer.

Drop in stools. My client liked the design of the stools but felt that the original covers were dull.

Definitely no longer dull and both the frame and fabric compliment each other.

One of six rather bland drop in seats

All six seats brought to life with this uplifting fabric and a bit more padding for extra comfort.

Chair from the back view with braid falling off and generally looking very tired.

One of 2 Victorian chairs both in a very sad state with wood and fabric damaged.

Horsehair stuffing looking a bit flat and patchy in places.

Although some of the wood still not without evidence of wear and tear the over all decorative look for both chairs certainly brightened the two rooms they were intended for.

Some colourful braid finishes it perfectly bringing the eye back to the elegant flower in the centre.

Both chairs were finished with cushions made from fabric with complimenting colours and some tassels for some extra fun.

This little chair needed a refreshing new look as it was going to have a new home looking out into the garden.

More modern lighter fabric with new trim and decorative nails gives this delightful little chair a more contemporary look and ready for its new home in the bay window looking out over the garden.

A view from the back.

Four chairs and two matching stools with the seat covers held together by duct tape.

Two of the set all matched up with uplifting patterned fabric and more importantly, duct tape free with a bit more padding for extra comfort.

A fun project from a client who have collected some old Nina Campbell swatch books from the 1990's and wanted them turned into a patchwork to grace a bed or sofa turning the bland into interesting.
